The image of Garbo

Fotografiska Museet proudly presents what is probably the world's largest private collection of unique Garbo photographs and other memorabilia, all gathered during 20 years of collector Lars Nordin.

Greta Garbo was born on September 18, 1905 in Stockholm, Sweden. A reclusive star, Garbo began her career in Europe before coming to the United States to work for MGM when she was 19. Her sensual, mysterious look made her a hit with American audiences, both in silent and sound films before World War II, and she was nominated for four Oscars, later winning an honorary award. She died in New York City on April 15, 1990.

In the main hall F1 at Fotografiska Museet will from June 23 to August 21, the exhibition The image of Garbo, several hundred photographs of Greta Garbo from various stages of her life and career. Studio Photos in silver gelatin, private photos or prints for the press where she poses with contemporary celebrities and other interesting photography with this our most famous Swedish film star in focus. Also shown are exciting video material from different periods of her life.

Many of the photographs have never before been available to view, but now reaches the public eye in an exhibit that both raises new questions and answers surrounding this ancient mythical and mystical person. Considered as one of the greatest actresses in Hollywood history, with four Oscar nominations, came Greta Garbo to become one of cinema's most prominent icons. Equally known for his film roles, and her appearance, she was for her reclusive and secretive life. After an abrupt finish to the film career trying Garbo stay beyond the cameras' reach, which brought a growing curiosity about the mystery surrounding her life, she who in addition to his movie star fame also was known as the richest woman in the US who have earned their wealth.

His interest in Greta Garbo was first raised when he as a young boy fascinated by her beauty.
20 years ago Lars found an ad where an elderly lady was selling Garbo Photographs took an exciting journey in which now, after two decades, his final stop of this exhibition at the Fotografiska Museum. A journey that brought him from the elderly lady who first announced to her daughter Inger accommodation in New York, who inherited a whole container of Garbo memorabilia of her friend Alice Vrbsky which was dedicated Garbo fans. Alice worked as a young assistant to Billie Holliday, had plenty of money and spent time in the future hottest circuits and wrote to Garbo every day for many years. Letters reportedly warmly appreciated by the hermit Garbo, although she never answered them. Just a intriguing topic of many who spun around this icon and how she constantly aroused, and still arouses, ambient fascination.
