Romania is situated in southeast Europe. The northern parts are mountainous while the south is dominated by the vast Danube plain. Majestic, mythical castles and towns from the middle ages, surrounded by high walls and deep moats is part of the rural, picturesque scene. Here you can also go hill walking in the famous Romanian Carpathian Mountains. Romania feels like you have moved back 100 years in time. In the countryside, the farmers still plough their fields with the help of horses and oxen, and when it’s time for harvest they take out their scythe. On the streets in the bigger cities, primitive carts compete about the space with modern cars. Romania is probably most famous for being the home of blood thirsty Count Dracula. He lived in 14th century castle Bran, in Transylvania, which is today one of the country’s most visited tourist attractions. Romania is also known for its tasty local beers and has old traditions in wine making.
